Waiting on Wednesday (3)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's Waiting on Wednesday is:

Fire flower

History is on repeat, and things didn’t go so well the last time.

Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her eighteenth birthday–to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner… and so is Aiden.

If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time “training”–which really is just Seth’s code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time–she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she’s caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed… and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate…

I just finished Half-blood and Pure so I'm totally dying to read Deity!! Especially since Pure ended with a cliffhanger, and I almost started scrutinizing the blank pages in the end to see if there was anymore, but nooo. And I want more Aiden ♥
Luckly, it's due next week, so that isn't such a long time. Right? o.O

What is your WoW this week? Leave a link below and I'll definitely check it out!

Half-blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)
Add to Goodreads
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My thoughts

Jennifer L. Armentrout has become one of my favourite authors and she sure didn't disappoint me with Half-blood. It was funny, interesting, thrilling, steamy and excitting. JLA writes amazingly, and I was imediately sucked into the story, and wasn't released until the last page was turned. The story was very good, and I really liked the world JLA built with the Convenant, the differences and rules between the halfs and pures, and how it was all linked to the Greek Mythology. It was interesting and believable. And then I just like anything that has to do with Greek Mythology.
I have to admit that I sort of guessed some of the major plot lines quickly, so I wasn't always very surprised. But it didn't really matter much, as I was so consumed in the way everything was revealed, and mostly how Alex reacted to things, 'cause that really wasn't predictable.
Half-blood did remind me a bit about Vampire Academy in the beginning, but as it progressed it definitely became a book of it's own. Besides, I liked Alex a lot better than Rose.

Scene from Pure in Aiden's pov

Just wanted to mention, that Jennifer L. Armentrout has been so gracious as to write another scene from Aiden's pov. Yay! This is the scene when Alex is on the Brew, and is acting a liiitle.. yeah, you know. Anyway, you should definitely go read it, 'cause it is great, like really freaking amazing! And it's Aiden♥ Need I say more?

You can read it here.

Cover reveal: Unbreakable

Yay, the cover for Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris has been revealed! I've been very much looking forward to this since reading Unravelling, as there hasn't been much to find about this second book. But now both the cover and the official blurb has been revealed, and boy it sounds great.
(If you haven't read Unravelling and want to, then don't read the blurb below, 'cause theres a lot of spoilers).

Here it is:
Elizabeth Norris' Unbreakable

Four months after Ben disappeared through the portal to his home universe, Janelle believes she’ll never see him again. Her world is still devastated, but life is finally starting to resume some kind of normalcy. Until Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay shows up. Somebody from an alternate universe is running a human trafficking ring, kidnapping people and selling them on different Earths—and Ben
is the prime suspect. Now his family has been imprisoned and will be executed if Ben doesn’t turn himself over within five days.

And when Janelle learns that someone she cares about—someone from her own world—has become one of the missing, she knows that she has to help Barclay, regardless of the danger. Now Janelle has five days to track down the real culprit. Five days to locate the missing people before they’re lost forever. Five days to reunite with the boy who stole her heart. But as the clues begin to add up, Janelle realizes that she’s in way over her head—and that she may not have known Ben as well as she thought. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?

Eeeep! I'm so excited! I loved Unravelling and I have really high hopes for Unbreakable, which I'm sure Elizabeth Norris will deliver. And I can't wait to read more about Janelle and Ben.
It'll be realeased on April 23, 2013 (such a loooong time), and you can read more about it here.

If you haven't read Unravelling I'd definitely recommed it.

Waiting on Wednesday (2)

Waiting on wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's Waiting on Wednesday is:

Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just … wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.
Mortal enemies, the fact that Lily and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary. Even she can build a laundry list of why getting close to him is career suicide, but she can’t shake her not-so angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.
As if Lily already didn’t have enough problems, the hits just keep coming. Blindsided when a traitor is discovered working from within the Sanctuary, Lily is shocked to find he’s determined to get her kicked out. Her relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion, and she quickly finds herself being hunted by well, everyone. Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything—and she’ll need Julian’s help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her … or destroy her.
Yeah, being a Nephilim isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be.

This book was actually due to be released yesterday, which I had very much been looking forward to, since I love the author and the story seems really good. Then it was pushed back to September 24, 2013, and was like; eh what? WHAT?? NOOO! I'll have to wait almost an entire YEAR?! That just kind of suck...

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Add to Goodreads

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

My thoughts

I can't really decide whether I like this book or not. Some parts of it I wasn't all that impressed by and some I thought was interesting and fun. I liked the concept of the story and I think the writing was pretty good. Actually the writing was kind of addictive. I don't know how Mead does it, but when I started reading I couldn't put it down even though I didn't like it all that much in the beginning. Weird, but in a good way. I think.
The story was good, but not extrodinary. I did like the world Mead had built with the Moroi, Stigoi and dhampirs. It seemed to all fit together and was very believable. I think the whole academy setting was interesting and provided a 'real wolrd' touch to the paranormal element; how gossip, social hierarchy, friends, enemies and love all were relatable or, in any case, real.
One of the best things was the bond between Rose and Lissa. I liked that even though it was a first person narrator, you got a clear insight into Lissa's feelings and view and that you get to see things from her pov without Rose being there. Cool.

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Add to Goodreads
Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

My thoughts

I don't really know where to begin with this review. This book was freaking awesome! I was like super glued to the pages while I read. So I was kinda annoyed at the paper I needed to finish when I had just received this book. Grrr. Anyway, I was completly sucked into the book, and I felt as if I was on a emotional rollercoaster. And as I have seen many comment about in their reviews, and which I very much agree on, is that Onyx doesn't feel like a 'middle book'. You know, where there just need to be some filling between books (yeah, I know there are five books in the series, so technically it's not a middle book), but JLA has made this a book of its own, and I loved that. The things that happen are important, and will have, I think, a significant impact on the following books.

Onyx picks up right where Obisidian ended, and continues the story as Katy and Daemon try to figure out what this connection between them is. Katy is also trying to find out what she feels about Daemon, and if Daemon's sudden atraction to her is just a part of the connection. Best of all, they haven't given up on their constant banter and of course their intense interaction. I have to admit, severeal times I was internally screaming kiss already! Then in comes Blake, the new apperently hot student who quickly eyes Katy. And Daemon did not like that. Neither did I for that matter. I was totally on Daemon's team telling Kat not to spend time with Blake and I kinda wish Daemon had smashed his head in from the beginning. But Katy doesn't listen, and I did understand her reasons not to, I really did. And I loved that even though you may not like her choices you fully understand why she does it.
But there are rarely peace around the Luxen, and as if alien bad guys wasn't enough, the DOD is now suddenly everywhere, curious about what exactly happened the night Katy and Daemon where connected. And man, were they just creepy!
So Katy didn't have an easy time in Onyx. Poor Kitten.

I loved Katy in this book, and she was her very good old self, still not taking any shit from Daemon or anyone, and definitely kicking some butt. Yay! But I do think she was a bit stubborn with all the 'Daemon is only attracted to me because of the connection'. While I was annoyed about it, I also liked that she didn't just forget how he treated her in Obsidian, and that she couldn't believe he could just like her afterwards, so.. But she is warming up to him, and I loved watching her slowly acknoledge the feeling she has for him.
One of the best things was that Kat was still blogging in Onyx, which might be a small part of the story, but I liked that JLA kept this part of her in it. That she doesn't throw her hobbies away or anything.

Daemon was... Okay, I'll start again. Daemon was just.. Ahem. Daemon was back, but he has changed a lot from Obsidian. Admittedly, he was a big jerk in the last book, but he was so sweet in Onyx. Seriously, sometimes I just wanted to hug him. He was very nice to Katy and protecting of her, but don't fret he has still got that Daemon attitude, and he still get under Katy's skin. But I think we finally get to see the real Daemon, and he is simply swoon-worhty.
I have to add, it was hilarious how he made fun of Blake, and though Blake could stand his ground, Daemon was still the winner. Take that, Biff! Erm, I mean Blake.

Now I just can't wait for Opal. I want to read now. Like right now. Or more like yesterday. Argh, just give me the book already. Opal. Opal. OPAL! Okay, I'll calm down now. *sigh*
So, would I recommend this? Definitely! But I have to admit that I still love Obsidian the most.

Waiting on Wednesday (1)

Waiting on wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's Waiting on Wednesday is:

No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger… and they know it.

Since finishing Onyx I'm dying to read Opal, so it seems like forever till the release in December!!
At least I've this stunning cover to drool over, though it's not like that lessens my anticipation!
